RFA Discusses Ethanol’s Climate Impacts on Media Call

rfalogo1On a press conference call today hosted by the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) leading experts in the field of lifecycle greenhouse gas analysis and agricultural land use discussed the climate impacts of ethanol production and use, compared to the impacts of petroleum and other energy alternatives.

Speakers also addressed what they called flawed arguments made by ethanol opponents—including Timothy Searchinger and John DeCicco—on a different media call earlier in the day. To set the record straight, the biofuel experts discussed the actual greenhouse gas emissions impacts of ethanol.

The press call was moderated by Geoff Cooper, Senior Vice President, RFA.  Experts on the call included:

  • Stefan Unnasch, Senior Partner, Life Cycle Associates
  • Susan Boland, Scientist, Life Cycle Associates
  • Steffen Mueller, Principal Economist, Energy Resources Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago
  • Prof. Wally Tyner, Energy and Agricultural Economist, Purdue University
